Hugo de Jonge

Hugo de Jonge (b. 1977) was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport in the third Rutte government on 26 October 2017.

From 2010 to 2017 he was a member of the Rotterdam municipal executive for the Christian Democratic Alliance (CDA), with responsibility for education, youth programs and (from 2014 on) healthcare. Before this he was a civil servant at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, also serving as political assistant to Maria van der Hoeven and Marja van Bijsterveldt, who were respectively minister and state secretary for education. Mr. de Jonge began his career as a primary school teacher.
